New Features in Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 Refer to the Getting STarted Guide for more information on all the features of Sun Java System Application Server 7. This section only highlights new features added in this release. EJB Failover: Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 adds support for EJB failover. The product thus provides uninterrupted service without loosing state for any J2EE applications inspite of system or software crash. RMI/IIOP Failover and Load Balancing:Load balancing and failover of EJB and Name Service references accessed along RMI/IIOP path. Enhancements to HTTP/s Load Balancing and Failover: Support for auto-retry of idempotent URLs. Provision for application specific error pages along the HTTP path. Improved validation of loadbalancer configuration file. Support for Sun Java System Message Queue Enterprise Edition 3.5 SP1: Sun Java System Application Server 7 is certified to work with Sun Java System Message Queue Enterprise Edition 3.5 SP1. The Enterprise Edition provides connection failover between Application Server instances and message brokers, as well as failover of durable subscriptions. By default, Sun Java System Message Queue Platform Edition 3.5 SP1 is bundled with Sun Java System Application Server 7. To enable the failover features of Enterprise Edition for a trial period (as permitted by license), see instructions given in Sun Java System Application Server Administration Guide. You can seamlessly upgrade the bundled Platform Edition to Enterprise Edition if you have a valid license to use the enterprise edition of the Message Queue product. Administration Console and CLI Enhancements: Admin GUI and the asadmin CLI support configuration and administration of RMI/IIOP load balancing and failover.

New Features Available in Standard and Enterprise Editions Platform Support: Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2 is available now for Solaris SPARC, Solaris x86, Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 3.0. Standard Edition is supported on Windows XP, 2000 and 2003 besides all the above platforms. Support for additional platforms will be available by product GA in short time. Please contact your Sun representative or partner for additional information. Stability and Quality Fixes: This release fixes a number of performance, stability, scalability, and availability fixes, providing improved experience over Sun Java System Application Server 7. Non-root Install Support: The product now provides the option to install the Application Server with privileges other than root. This option would greatly help developers and system test groups in an organization. J2SE 1.4.2_04 Support: Product supports latest JDK 1.4.2_04, providing additional reliability and performance. Database Support: The Sun Java System Application Server 7 2004Q2 product is designed to support connectivity to any database management system with a corresponding certified JDBC driver. The product has been tested with wide variety of databases and drivers including Oracle 8i, 9i, 9i RAC, IBM DB2 8.1 UDB, Sybase ASE 12.5, Sybase DTM 12.0, Pointbase 4.2, and MS SQL Server 2000. Refer to product documentation for more information. Assembly Tool: The Assembly Tool (downloadable) supports high-availability specific extensions to deployment descriptors. Migration Tool: The Migration Tool (downloadable) enables seamless migration of J2EE applications from various application servers to Sun Java System Application Server Standard and Enterprise Edition 7 2004Q2.
